Decode Democracy is seeking a full-time Digital Manager to lead its online presence and grow its supporter/follower base on social media platforms, as we work to push back against massive online disinformation and misinformation. If you are an outstanding communicator, creative campaigner, and looking for a meaningful way to take action against big tech and bad actors who threaten the fundamental tenets of democracy, we want to hear from you.
The Digital Manager will be primarily responsible for managing Decode Democracy’s digital presence, including growing a stronger online presence, engaging in rapid response to news of the day, holding platforms to account, and increasing advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and at the state level. Goals include growing the Decode Democracy base, engaging the public, maintaining and growing Decode Democracy’s presence on social media, and maintaining the website. This person will work as a core partner with the Policy Advocacy team and with the Communications Director. Experience and ability to work with diverse communities and bring a racial justice and equity lens to the forefront of the work is critical.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, organized self-starter with at least three to five years of experience in digital advocacy and fundraising, communications, and/or campaigns. This is a full-time position with some evening and weekend work as-needed. This position reports to the Decode Democracy Communications Director. Decode Democracy maintains a headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area, with staff able to work remotely. However, given the nature of the work and news cycle, a slight preference will be given to someone based in Washington, D.C. or on the East coast.
-Develop organic social media content for all platforms, including compelling copy and graphics.
-Maintain Decode Democracy’s website.
-Build and execute a plan for online organizational growth.
-Draft, send, and monitor Decode Democracy emails using Action Network.
-Engage in rapid response to current events and developments across the landscape.
-Create and implement paid social media strategies.
-Monitor the news and relevant social media feeds for engagement opportunities.
-Develop a plan for engagement by high-level activists.
-Create and implement online fundraising strategies.
-Interest in engaging and networking with allies and coalitions in the digital deception space to amplify and promote the work.
-Provide digital strategy and support for additional MapLight projects, such as Voter’s Edge (votersedge.org), on an as-needed basis.
-At least 3 to 5 years digital experience.
-Proven track record of success at using digital tools to achieve organizational goals.
-Ability & willingness to follow digital deception news and identify opportunities for rapid response and/or leverage advocacy opportunities.
-Proven ability to work with diverse communities and bring a racial justice and equity lens to the work.
-Understanding of Action Network or a willingness to learn quickly.
-Familiarity with WordPress and ability to maintain the new Decode Democracy website.
-Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
-Meticulous attention to detail.
-Ability to engage in rapid response and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
-A creative vision and resourcefulness to make it a reality.
-Strong design skills for creating social media images a plus.

Salary & Benefits
Salary will be commensurate with experience, between $70,000 and $90,000 per year, plus fully-covered health benefits, generous paid vacation, and a 403(b) plan.
