Coalition to Fight Digital Deception

The Coalition to Fight Digital Deception, a diverse and growing group of public interest organizations, was convened in late 2020 to fight digital deception with a particular focus on legislative and policy outcomes.

Unraveling digital deception is a complex problem. We believe that any proposals for legislation must protect free speech, respect the principles and past jurisprudence of the First Amendment, be content-neutral, and address the highest-priority sources and harms of disinformation and misinformation. We are also informed by the fact that some groups are more likely to be the focus of, and suffer harm from this environment.

Current members of the Coalition to Fight Digital Deception include:

  • ADL
  • +accountabletech
  • Avaaz
  • Brennan Center
  • Campaign Legal Center
  • Common Cause
  • Decode Democracy
  • Mozilla
  • New America Foundation – Open Technology Institute
  • Public Citizen
  • Public Knowledge

The coalition regularly discusses potential policy and regulatory solutions moving through Congress or under consideration by the administration. We actively look for opportunities to collaborate and push forward effective ideas.

The coalition meets monthly and operates with working groups to tackle particular issues and discussion items in between monthly meetings. To learn more or get involved, please contact
